During the last few months, I have been on a fairly time consuming assignment in China. It didn’t give me much time to look around, but given my interest in technology and telecommunications, I did manage to get some photos of Chinese cellular system antenna towers.
One of the most difficult issues in getting these pictures was blue sky. I was based on the outskirts of Nanjing, a couple of hours west of Shanghai, where a blue sky was rare. Most of the time it was grey, and often turned black in the city.
The cell towers tended to come in three configurations:- the conventional 3 sector monopole tower seen around the world, the lattice tower, and the stacked pole tower which I have only seen in China.

Most of the cellular telecom towers in China are 3G, with some running WCDMA, and some CDMA.
